Using Aromatherapy Oils for Stress
Aromatherapy has been around for a long time, and involves the use of extracting the essential oils from plants, and using them for health and fragrant purposes.
This page will go over using aromatherapy oils for stress and anxiety as they are great at relieving tension and calming your body and mind back to normal.
You can buy essential oils from many reputable suppliers, but make sure they are 100% essential oils and not a blend or fragrance oil if you are using them for their health benefits.
You shouldn't use your aromatherapy oils neat however, you will need to either add them to a carrier oil like almond oil to use as a massage oil, a burner or diffuser to let the essential oil's permeate the air, or you can add a few drops to your bath water and relax in that.
There are many essential oils that are beneficial to relieving stress, but let's start out with my favourite top 3 aromatherapy oils for stress:
Lavender Aromatherapy Oil
This is the most common oil that most people use, and with good reason - it works for burns, stings, relaxation, insomnia, and much more.
For stress, lavender works by relaxing the mind and body. It's particularly effective if you add a few drops to your bath or get a massage using the oils.
It can also be used by children in the bath (although use fewer drops than you would for an adult).
If you are at work and don't have access to a bath (not many workplaces that I know of do - LOL) then add a few drops to a tissue or burner and inhale the aroma instead.
Basil Aromatherapy Oil
If it's work or mental fatigue that's stressing you out, then basil essential oil is great for bringing you clarity and helping you concentrate better. It will relieve any mental blockages that you might have and allow you to think clearly again.
Great if you have a major decision or problem that you need to sort out and need time to think about the right solution before you take action.
Basil is also particularly great if you suffer from headaches and migraines from your stress. It has a stimulating but gentle effect on the nervous system which makes it great for any anxiety related conditions.
Clary Sage Aromatherapy Oil
If your stress is mixed with a bit of depression or you can't seem to feel normal or happy again then clary sage is great for lifting your mood so that you feel yourself again.
Many people are wary of using clary sage essential oil because they say it gives them a high. And while that may be kind of true, that will only happen if you are already in a normal to good mood.
If however you are depressed or sad, it will lift you back to the next level which is normal again helping you deal with whatever problems you need to.
