Now that you've done your keyword research and optimized your hubpage it's time to do some more search engine optimisation for your hubpage. You ideally want to get your hubpage ranked #1 for your long tail keyword.
So far I've told you about the onpage optimisation techniques that you can use to get your hub ranking well in the search engines, but now you need to generate backlinks to your hub.
And not just any old backlinks, but good quality authority backlinks.
That's a link from a site that has a PageRank of 3 or higher.
And of course you need to use your anchor text as your backlink.
What's an anchor text backlink?
An anchor link is simply a link that contains your keyword. So if your long tail keyword was Get Your HubPage To Rank #1 in the Search Engines you would write your link like this:
<a href="urlhere"> Get Your HubPage To Rank #1 in the Search Engines</a>, and it would appear like this:

You will need quite a lot of backlinks to get your hub to rank well, in fact I recommend getting as many quality backlinks to your hubpage that you can.
Right now you are probably asking yourself, where on earth are you going to get lots of high quality authority backlinks?
Well the first place to start is to write articles to high pagerank article directories such as EzineArticles and GoArticles.
That will give you 2 high quality high pagerank links for free.
Having a well optimised page and anchored text backlinks to your site is all you need to get a hubpage (or any website) ranking highly in the search engines.
And the higher rank you have, the more traffic you will get, and the more money you will make.

Yes hubs are great for already ranking high in the search engines due to it's great pagerank and google love.
But there are lots of keywords that need that extra help (because of high competition) and backlinks really will give you a huge boost.

when you say submit your articles to article directories, can we submit same article to all directories or we will have to alter that a bit?
I actually only submit to ezinearticles. So one original article to them. Then I mostly use paul and angela's backlinks for extra google love. Because hubpages is so strong, I usually only need around 30 links (so Angela's) to get my hub to rank really well.
But to answer your question. If you are using articles as backlinks then yes it's fine to submit the same article to many directories. Put it on ezinearticles first though and wait until it's approved before you put it elsewhere.
I thought Google won't appriciate paul and angela's backlinks much...?
Google doesn't allow paid links - you are correct. However you are not paying for links with their services, you are just paying for a guide that tells you where to put your links. Big difference and totally legitimate.
It's free to place your links whereever they suggest. Yes you could find those places yourself as well (many of them are quite obvious), but for $5 a month it's a timesaver to know exactly where to put them.
I'm not the only one that are using their service, many other IM'ers are getting brilliant results and No.1 for their keyword's as well.
You don't HAVE to use them, but they do help me.
Can you use Paul's or Angela's services for just one or two hubs or for all your link building work at the same cost per month
You can use them for as many sites as you like. I like to keep the links to about 2 per profile though so it doesn't look too spammy. But you can have as many profiles as you have time to set up.
Those backlinks are good, but it hink too many people, including google know about them now.
Hi Matt, Yes I agree. I'm using them sparingly now - and I feel their run is almost over. Too public, too many newbs, too many abusers.
Oh well, it was good while it lasted.
Yeah I just use them too but I´m really worried about it. All the high PR sites gets spamed to the maximum. Most sites change to no follow. Let´s hope Paul and Angela stop their sellings to more people because they are making more than enough money with their backlink paket sales already...

As far as I know,Paul's and Angela's backlinking packets are totally useless right now.They were great before but they don't seem to work currently.I would prefer social bookmarking.I am working for a seo firm and believe me they really don't work anymore.
With a site as big as hubpages, it don't matter how many links you have because the the page rank is based on how many quality links to the website, not the article.
My best ranking pages have no links to them directly.
Page rank (PR) and where you are ranking in the serps are two different things. You can in fact do very well linking directly to your own hubs to increase their serp rankings (although many hubs do very well on their own as well).

Boston, I usually submit the SAME article to the top 10 or 12 article directories. I'm doing it for the backlinks so I don't really care if the articles themselves rank well.

Hi Traceye. Thank you for your clarity. When you mentioned that you submit articles to EzineArticles and GoArticles, I thought to myself "OH no", now I have to write even more articles besides at hubpages.
But your response to "Boston", that you usually submit the SAME article to the top 10 or 12 article directories, just opened up my eyes. You're not so concerned about ranking, you're concerned about the backlinks, which makes sense.
Question: If you submit the same article to 12 different article directories, isn't that considered duplication, and doesn't Google frown upon that?

Yes it is duplicate content (or rather it's syndicated content - the same content distributed to different websites) which means the search engines will usually only show two, maybe three copies in the main index of the same article and the rest will be put in the supplemental index. It will usually show the website(/s) it feels is the most authoratitive for that article.
However, that shouldn't matter, because whether the article is in the main index or the supplemental index the backlink still counts. And it's the backlink that you want in this case, not for the article to rank highly (you want YOUR main original aritcle on hubpages or your own site to rank well, but the support article I usually couldn't care less where it ranks usually).
So in answer to your question, Google will filter out the duplicate content so it won't clog up the search results with the same article BUT it will still count the backlink. Win Win for everyone.
Summary:
* Original article on your site (or on hubpages)
* Another article that you distribute to the various article directories for backlinks.

I like it - concise and informative.
There's no reason to stop at longtail keywords; invest the time and you can get a good ranking for pretty much any keyword.
i think bieng in google list popularity is a must.. isnt it..?

Hi Traceye, your techniques are all useful but i think the key to make your hub rank in search pages is to make it popular and useful as well. As few of my hubs rank well in search pages while i have not implemented any of the techniques listed above.
